All around, a well done movie (with one exception - partial spoiler)
I have to say, if you look at Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End as a fitting conclusion to the trilogy, it was a very good film. I can safely say this is one film to ignore the reviews on, as most of the reviews that I have read bashing the film have found some pretty ridiculous stuff to nitpick. The length, for one thing, was fitting for an end-of-trilogy film, as it is possibly the last healthy dose of pirate fun we'll be getting for a while, and there was alot of ground to cover. Also, Jack is not brought in until about half an hour into the movie, which I know upset some critics but seriously... HE GOT EATEN BY A KRAKEN!

Johnny Depp was, as always, brilliant, with a lovely twist thrown in concerning semi-skitsofrenic madness caused by his time in Davy Jones Locker. Tia Dalma, the voodoo lady from the second film, also has a much larger role and many of the mysteries concerning her connection with Davy Jones are solved. Also, if you found Elizabeth Swann to be frustrating, annoying, or just... well... entirely unlikable in the first two films, she finally comes into her own in this one and makes one very good pirate queen (after the silly hats get taken off, her costumes for the Sao-Feng and Flying Dutchman scenes are downright awesome). Also, this is the one film I have to say where they uglied up Orlando Bloom just enough to where he seriously is a hunk lol. Normally, he's just a pretty man but in Pirates 3, his character arc is not only completed, but he is one downright hot pirate.

I will warn you that this next comment is a spoiler, so look no further if you want to still be surprised:

There was one part of the film that I was utterly disappointed with, and that was the introduction of Calypso, the sea goddess imprisoned in human form by the nine pirate lords. If you haven't figured out which character she is, it won't take you long to guess. I was very excited about this character because I've always had a thing for legends about sirens and the like. Lets just say they botched it on this one.... In the climactic scene where Calypso is released, she does not turn into a watery sea-nymph bursting with power, nor into a fiery mermaid with glowing eyes, or the Dark Phoenix... She turns into the bionic woman, and gets bigger and bigger until she starts speaking zombie and... (I almost can't produce the words... gah...) explodes into millions of crabs. Crabs, my friends! Crabs! Says something 'bout her relationship with Captain Jones (ack).

Other than that, it was a very enjoyable film! The ending is a heart-wrencher but a fitting conclusion to the trilogy (do stay after the credits for the easter egg, it's very important). All around, good movie. - Jael , posted 05/26/07
